Mother’s Day is approaching and as we scramble to find items that express and celebrate the women in our lives. I want to encourage you to acknowledge those who struggle during this time and if you can… extend yourself with gratitude. As a business owner I attach myself to certain organizations, one being HomeSpace in Buffalo N.Y. Second Chance HomeSpace is a group home for teenage mothers in foster care who range in age from 14-21 years old. They were created in response to an unmet need to provide housing and services for young, single parents who are in foster care or eligible for foster care replacement.
This organization means a lot to me because I was a teen mom and they have a lot of great programs for the women. As I was thinking back about my experience, there was an unmet need in the wellness department. I had no guidance in personal care for me and my child well-being. I approached HomeSpace and asked to do a health fair for the moms to encourage a healthy lifestyle. We have a great relationship and they said of course!
I talked about self-love (article on this site) and the 10 tools to compliment/encourage a healthy journey. We discussed the sacrifices made one being time with a child when you have to work and attend school. If work, life, balance would have been an introduction to motherhood for me. I would have finished college without any breaks. It was a humbling experience to speak with the teens and give back at the same time. I do not regret my journey and I do recognize it led me to them today!
Two other women very active in the wellness field spoke to the teens as well. Stephanie Cupato a health coach and fitness trainer with 4 girls! Dr.Rachel Brooks who believes consistent Chiropractic care is an essential part of a person’s health and wellness plan.
Thank you Stephanie and Dr.Brooks and HomeSpace! We appreciate our wonderful wellness sponsors, Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Blue Cross Blue Shield of WNY and Erie County Chiropractic for their support in giving back to the community.
We all came from a women and must remember to celebrate and give thanks.
