Over the weekend I attended International Natural Hair Meet-Up Day (INHMD) hosted by WNY Naturals in Buffalo N.Y. It’s an annual one day educational, networking resource event for naturalistas everywhere or those curious about that life.
Founders Tosha and Tamara are 4 times host to INHMD and they never disappoint when it comes to product introduction, hair education and styling techniques to assist the growing community of naturals within Western New York or surrounding areas.
That’s why I’m super excited to tell you about their event, keynote speaker, swag and online community.
WNY Naturals on the Internet
WNY Naturals is an online Facebook community with over 2,000 members sharing and supporting women on their natural hair care journey. With so many online groups I know your thinking is it necessary to add more notifications to my list. I say Absolutely! This group is here to connect seasoned naturals, transitioning naturals, hair stylist, students or anyone looking for a supportive hair forum. Basically its for everybody even though It’s a secret group. This ensures the members (women) feel comfortable sharing and/or posting photos to the group. WNY Naturals private page is not just about posting selfies. It’s also full of information, potential clients (stylist listing) and support if you choose to interact. The founders (Tosha and Tamara) pin post that frequently remind members of rules and guidelines to follow so there’s an understanding. This ensures the group remains supportive but collaborative through networking and education.
If a private group discussion doesn’t interest you. WNY Naturals has a public fan page to stay connected with the online community. These women are always inviting and waiting to meet you in whatever way you want to be involved. I suggest you find them on Facebook to join the conversation or better yet come to the next event. Which brings me to my next topic…
WNY Naturals #INHMD meets #EnBlanc
WNY Naturals host events throughout the year but this was the largest because it happens all over the world. That’s what makes this group so special. They think about their local community and connect the members internationally to speakers, hair stylist and concepts they would like to support.
Last year I attended WNY Naturals En Blanc event but it wasn’t combined with INHMD. Even then I was in love with the concept and noted it my favorite meet-up. When I heard they were combining the two international concepts, I was so excited and worried at the same time I would miss it due to a traveling position (I didn’t get, yet) but I was here for it!
Sorry back to En Blanc..this was the most beautiful and angelic natural event I’ve been to. If you’re familiar with this exclusive En Blanc Diner then you know the tickets aren’t cheap and you bring your own dinnerware, food and decorate your table to mix/mingle in all white attire.
Well, they remixed the concept and invited all members from their private group and asked them to bring a friend to experience the magic. This WNY Naturals En Blanc experience had an exquisite menu that catered to everyone, including vegans. There was Dr. Susan a guest speaker from Canada and the founder of Earthtones Naturals, who is also a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in the process of becoming a Certified Trichologist (hair and scalp specialist), radio personality (Yasmin Young) , entertainment (Tamra Music), live painting, giveaways, raffles and vendors. Sounds amazing right? There was more!
The décor was done by Niche interior and events with a Cuban theme. The girl flew in from New York and decorated Hotel Lafayette like a tropical essence of coconut oil and shea butter. Umbrellas were everywhere, lanterns, and swag for every single attendee was hanging from their chairs. Did I mention by Made Beautiful was the Title Sponsor! Listen the product was on fleek EDEN BodyWorks, Nature’s Gate and Miss Jessie’s just to name a few. I wish I could list everyone but it would take this whole post. I’m just trying to say join WNY Naturals and check out photos on both of our Instagram pages.
